Review results and clear the workspace
Check completed changes and problems, then remove files from the working list without deleting them.

Quick answer
Read the status at the bottom of the workspace and check the tags beside your files. After a workflow, click an available Skipped count to inspect its issues. Use Remove Selected Files (−) for selected entries or Clear Files for the whole workspace. These clear the working list, not your original files or completed tag changes.
Clear the workspace without deleting your files
Video walkthrough coming soon. Follow the steps below.
Read the progress and completion status
After you click Apply, watch the lower part of the workspace. Wait for the operation to finish before clearing files or starting another action.
| What you see | What it means |
|---|---|
| Importing files... or Updating file filters... | Little Tagger is still collecting or rebuilding the working list. |
| Applying in ...s. | A delayed action is scheduled; this is not a completion message. |
| Tagging files and a count | A tagging operation is in progress. |
| An applied, removed, replaced, or workflow completion message | Read the reported outcome and check the file tags. |
| An access warning, read warning, or error | Some work could not be completed or checked as expected. Review the problem before retrying. |
On the right, 3 of 12 files, for example, means three entries are visible out of twelve in the workspace. The separate selection count shows how many entries are selected. Neither is the same as a completed-action count.
A processed-file count is not necessarily a count of files whose tags changed. A file can already have the requested tags, or a workflow can check it without any step changing its tags.
Check the tags on a file
- Review the tag labels displayed with the affected file in List or Grid view.
- If a +number appears after the visible tags, hold the pointer over it to see the additional tags.
- If the file has a tag-read warning, do not treat an empty tag display as proof that it has no tags.
- Check the same original file in Finder when you need to confirm its current tags independently.
In Finder's List view, Control-click a column heading and enable Tags to show the tag column. See Apple's Use tags to organize files on Mac for Finder's own controls.
If files disappeared after a tag change, check the File Tags filter. They may no longer match it. Clear the relevant condition using Find and filter files.
Inspect skipped workflow results
- After the workflow finishes, look for Skipped followed by a count in the status area.
- When the count offers issue details, click it. Holding the pointer over it also opens the explanation.
- Read the affected filename, the issue, and any preset name shown.
- Correct the reported problem and inspect the file's current tags before deciding whether to run the workflow again.
The detailed Skipped popover belongs to workflow results with recorded issues. A “Skipped” number in an ordinary tagging status message is not necessarily an interactive report.
Files excluded by your search or filters are outside the starting target set. A skipped count is not an inventory of every file hidden from the workspace or omitted during folder collection.
Remove selected files from the workspace
- Wait for current tagging to finish. Choose Manually if an automatic or delayed action is configured.
- In List view, select the entries you want to remove. Hold Command (⌘) while clicking to select more than one.
- Check the selection count.
- Click Remove Selected Files (−) in the toolbar, or choose Actions > Clear Selected Files.
The selected entries leave the working list. The original files stay in their existing locations with their current tags.
To work with those entries again, use Add Files or drag them in from Finder. Simply changing a filter does not restore entries you deliberately removed.
Clear the entire workspace
- Wait for current tagging to finish and note any result or error you still need.
- Click Clear Files in the toolbar, or choose Actions > Clear All Files.
- Check that the empty workspace shows No Files Added.
This clears all workspace entries, including those hidden by the current filters. It also clears the workspace filename search and the displayed working status.
Prepare the next batch
Before adding more files, check which preset or workflow is selected and which action is configured. A previous remove or replace action may still be prepared.
For a new one-off task, choose Actions > Clear Selected Preset if a saved item is selected, then choose Manually. Review the Tags and Filters inspectors before adding files. Clear unwanted prepared tag names and turn off removal or replacement switches when you want to add tags.
Choose Manually before importing the next batch to prevent automatic execution based on retained timing settings. Clearing the list is not a substitute for checking those settings.
When results need another look
Tags could not be read
Check that the file is still available. Choose it again through Add Files to restore workspace access where needed. For saved folder access, follow Set up folder and volume access. Do not infer that the file is untagged from the warning alone.
Importing stopped partway through
Files already added can remain in the workspace when a later item fails. Resolve the reported access or read problem, then add the missing items again. The visible list is not proof that the whole folder was collected.
The workspace is empty but Finder still shows the tags
That is expected after clearing the working list. To change those tags, add the files again and use the appropriate action in Add, remove, and replace tags.
