Add files and folders to the workspace

Choose the files you want to work with using Add Files, drag and drop, or the Finder Services shortcut.

Last updated: 2026-09-10

Quick answer

In Little Tagger, click Add Files (+), choose files or folders, and confirm your selection. You can also drag items from Finder into the workspace, or use the Add to Little Tagger Finder Services shortcut (⌘⇧E by default). To review files before a preset or workflow runs, choose Manually in the execution timing menu before adding them.

Before you add files

Open the Little Tagger workspace. In the toolbar, open the execution timing menu beside Apply, then choose Manually.

With Manually selected, adding files does not itself run the tagging action. The other timing options can start a selected preset or workflow automatically after files are added.

Use Add Files

  1. In the workspace toolbar, click Add Files, shown as a + button. In an empty workspace, you can also click the large + button in the center.
  2. In the Choose files or folders window, select the items you want to add. Hold Command (⌘) while clicking to select more than one item.
  3. Confirm your selection in the file picker.

The added files appear in the workspace. Depending on the current view, you will see a list or a grid.

Or drag files from Finder

  1. In Finder, select the files or folders you want to add.
  2. Drag them into Little Tagger's workspace.
  3. Release the mouse or trackpad to add them.

Dragging files is an alternative to Add Files. You do not need to use both methods.

Add from Finder with a keyboard shortcut

The fastest way to add files is the Add to Little Tagger Finder Services shortcut. It works from any Finder window or the Desktop without switching apps first.

  1. In Finder, select the files or folders you want to add.
  2. Press the global shortcut ⌘⇧E. The default shortcut can be changed in System Settings > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts > Services > Files and Folders > Add to Little Tagger.
  3. Go to the Little Tagger workspace to confirm the selection.

Check what was added

Look for the files you expect in the workspace. When you add a folder, the subfolder and alias settings affect what is included. Search and filters can also affect what you see.

Adding files to the workspace does not move them or create duplicate copies. Little Tagger works with the files in their original locations.

Remove an item or start again

To remove an item from the working list, select it and click Remove Selected Files, shown as a button in the toolbar.

To empty the working list, click Clear Files.

These actions remove items from the workspace, not from your Mac. They do not undo tag changes that have already been applied.

When files do not appear

The workspace shows No Results

Clear the workspace search field and check the Filters tab in the inspector. A search or filter may be hiding the files you added.

Little Tagger asks for access again

Use Add Files to choose the affected file or folder again. When macOS asks you to confirm access, select only the files or locations you intend to use.

Drag and drop does not add the files

Try Add Files instead. Check that the files are still available in Finder, then choose them in the file picker.
