Fix missing files or tags that did not change
Check file scope, access, and the active action before repeating a tagging operation.

Quick answer
First read the workspace message, then check the search, filters, selected files, and execution timing. Selected Tags are prepared names, not proof of a completed file change. If access failed, reselect the affected item or restore its location. After a partial failure, inspect the result before running a destructive action again.

Files are missing from the workspace
The workspace shows files you have added, not a browser of your whole Mac. In Actions > Filter Files, clear the search text. Then open View > Inspector > Filters and check file type, saved filename, date, size, and tag conditions.
For an unrestricted file-and-folder view, File Filter must allow Any File + Folders. Any File excludes folder entries. A selected preset can restore its saved filters when you choose it.
For nested content, review Subfolders. For a Finder alias, review Aliases. Adding a folder collects its contents; it does not simply insert the chosen root folder as a taggable row. Follow Include subfolders and aliases for the exact collection behavior.
Prepared tags did not appear on the files
- Choose Manually in the timing menu while checking the setup.
- Open View > Inspector > Tags and verify Selected Tags.
- For an add action, leave all three removal/replacement switches off.
- Select the intended visible files again, then click Apply.
- Read the completion message and inspect their displayed tags.
A prepared tag name or an unaccepted AI suggestion is not a completed tagging operation. With no files selected, Apply uses all eligible visible files. With a selection, only selected files that also remain eligible and visible are targets. A hidden selection can therefore leave no target files.
A tag disappeared from the displayed result
Check whether a File Tags condition stopped matching after the change. For example, removing the tag used by a filter can make the updated file disappear from that filtered view. Clear or adjust the condition to inspect the file again.
Also check for a +N tag indicator beside the file. It means additional tags are not shown inline; point to it to inspect the extra names.
Restore access without resetting the app
Confirm that you can locate the file in Finder and that its drive is connected. Use Add Files (+) to choose an affected file or folder again when the workspace requests restored access. For library scanning and management, review Manage Tags > Locations and use Re-Grant... when shown.
A read-only or unavailable location may not accept metadata changes. A warning that tags could not be read does not prove the file has no tags. Do not enable broad system permissions or delete application data as a generic first fix.
Handle an incomplete operation
After a workflow, inspect the Skipped details when available. For an interrupted library operation, use Retry Library Sync only when offered; it can resume pending changes. If the required recovery controls are unavailable, contact support rather than trying to reset the underlying files.
