Quick answer
Install Little Tagger from the Mac App Store on an M-series Mac running macOS 15 or later. Apple Intelligence is optional for everyday tagging, presets, and workflows. Apple Intelligence-powered tag generation additionally needs macOS 26 or later and an available on-device model.

Check your Mac and macOS version
- Open the Apple menu in the menu bar and choose About This Mac.
- Check the Chip entry for an Apple M-series chip. An entry labeled Processor with an Intel processor does not meet Little Tagger's current requirements.
- Check the macOS version shown in the same window. Little Tagger requires version 15 or later.

Install Little Tagger
- Open the App Store on your Mac.
- Search for Little Tagger and open its product page.
- Click Get, or the download button if you have downloaded it before. Complete any Apple Account confirmation requested by the App Store.
- When installation finishes, click Open.

Downloading the app and activating access are separate steps. During setup, Little Tagger may show Choose Your Plan or offer Restore Purchases. Read the offer displayed in the app before confirming a trial or subscription.
Complete the first setup
Follow the setup screens to import existing Finder tags, grant folder access, and reach the workspace. Importing your Finder tag library and trying the Quick Add shortcut are optional setup steps but highly recommended. The Add Locations step requires at least one location before you can continue.
A location is a folder or volume that you allow Little Tagger to access. Start with a folder you intend to use. You can grant your entire home folder just to get started or you can select different folders, such as Downloads, Documents, Pictures or Movies if you want to have more granular control.

When installation or setup does not work
The App Store says the app is incompatible
Check both the chip and the macOS version in About This Mac. You may need to upgrade, if you want to use the app.
The App Store shows Open instead of Get
Little Tagger is already installed. Click Open to launch it. For an installed older version, follow Update from an earlier version.
The app opens, but AI tag generation is unavailable
You can still use the non-AI features. Check the separate AI requirements above. Apple Intelligence must be enabled, and its model download must be complete. Apple's Apple Intelligence setup instructions cover the system setting and current language and region availability.
You cannot continue past Add Locations
Click Add Location, choose a folder, and click Grant Access. Check that the location appears in the setup screen before continuing.
